Sometimes it feels as though spring is interminable and summer will never arrive – but arrive it has. The days are hot, and it’s much harder to sit in your office all day long. I love this season not only for the weather, but also the spirit of everyone wanting to spend time outside, whether it’s for happy hour on a patio, or a long weekend at the beach.
Happy Friday! It’s been a bit of a quiet week for me, but I’m still grateful for the weekend. I had some fun with friends, watched a show I’ve been dying to see, and enjoyed the gorgeous weather.
I couldn’t be more excited for the weekend to be just around the corner. I’m celebrating a friend’s birthday in Baltimore on Friday, then Saturday going to a much-needed hair appointment to freshen my highlights. On Sunday, I’m flying out to LA (!!!) for a social media conference for work. I’ve never been to the west coast, so I can’t wait to explore around in my free time.
I spent the weekend getting some much-needed rays – and wishing I had more dresses in my closet. With the weather taking a turn for the hotter, it’s the perfect time to add a few new summer pieces to your wardrobe. J.Crew Factory is having an amazing sale, offering 40% off of everything (that means new arrivals and clearance) and free shipping. I can’t count the favorite pieces on one hand, so I rounded them up for you to shop! Use code UPANDAWAY to get the prices listed below.
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and every year I’m torn when it comes to getting something for my mom. She’s low maintenance, and doesn’t want us to make a big fuss over her for the day. I like to think up something small and thoughtful to get her anyways, and spend the day with her!
Raffia and straw are taking over summer collections everywhere. Whether you’re investing in a solid piece, like a tote bag for the beach, or you want to keep it on the bargain side with a beach-worthy straw hat, there are tons of options to choose from.
T-shirt dresses are my favorite thing to wear by far. Whether it’s to the office with a pair of pointed toe flats, on the weekend with slip-on sneakers, or to brunch paired with espadrille wedges, they work for any occasion. I particularly love when they have a fun detail that makes it stand out.
This weekend I celebrated turning 26. I love a good birthday celebration, but birthdays also tend to be a bit stressful for me – herding different friends to one location can be a bit dizzying. I did have the best birthday I could’ve hoped for, with friends visiting, going to a delicious (and indulgent) dinner on the Georgetown waterfront, and a lovely (albeit hot) evening having drinks on a rooftop.
I’ve been really into keeping my style simple lately – undergarments and jewelry included. Bralettes are my new go-to, especially as the weather warms up and I’m finding myself drawn to looser, strappier tops and dresses.
I’ve been toying with the idea of buying a new bag. It has been a while since I’ve gotten a new everyday one – I’ve been using J.Crew’s New Uptown Tote (current version here) for years, and it has held up surprisingly well. For my daily bag, I need something that’s roomy enough for a laptop, and that can hold up to a bit of heavy wear.
