My five-hundredth post

When I first started blogging I was a senior in college, eager to join the ranks of the working world yet still mourning the fact that I was about to be forced to leave school, the only truly familiar routine, and take an enormous step forward in my life. I can hardly believe that it has been such a long time since then – 2.5 years! Looking back, I knew that I would love more responsibility both in my life and in my career, but I still remember that overwhelming feeling of panic, not knowing what was to come. I’m a planner, a list-maker, someone who is always looking ahead to the next step. It was completely paralyzing to know that I would graduate college without a job and without any promising prospects. But, like most things, everything turned out as it should!

Just after Fashionably Clearance was born, I spent the summer at an unpaid internship (read: I was broke), then got a part-time job at J.Crew to try to earn some money before I got hired at my ‘real job’ that I was sure was to come. It was Halloween before I started that first job, but I was eager as ever to learn and grow in my profession. I continued to blog throughout this time, taking breaks here and there whenever needed. I kept it going for a few reasons. I love shopping and fashion and wanted to share that with others. I wanted to have an outlet for my love of writing, which my job didn’t necessarily provide. I thought it would be fun to take a hobby and combine it with my professional passions. It turned out to be all of those things and more, helping push me to learn HTML and use my abilities in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign to create the best content possible.

I’ve been blogging through both wonderful and rough times over the past couple of years – through college graduation; through an hour-and-a-half driving commute; through two internships and one job; through taking the train between DC and Maryland every day, twice a day; celebrating four, then five years together with my boyfriend; through moving away from home into a new city. Throughout everything, I’ve tried to continue improving the blog as my life changes around me, including providing relevant and interesting content. I would love to start doing outfit posts to share more of my personal style, and ramping up my Instagram game. With time comes new and exciting territory, and I can’t wait to continue sharing my fashion finds for the next 500 posts! Thank you to all of you who follow Fashionably Clearance.
