Loves as of late

Hump Day always gets me feeling antsy. This week and last in particular, as it feels like everyone but me is on some incredible vacation instead of trudging through the office day after day. It’s absolutely vacation season, but I guess I can’t be too grouchy because I have a trip coming up next weekend! See some of my favorite things keeping me inspired lately.

Getting artsy

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to try my hand at painting something for my home. I’ve been swooning over something like this or this, and decided to get the materials to give it a go. I can’t wait for them to arrive so I can settle in and see what I can do. It will be fun to have something I created hanging on display (not to mention it’s a fraction of the price of the real thing).

Lob it off

New seasons tend to make me feel for new hairstyles, and while my blonde isn’t going anywhere, I’m thinking about doing a little bit of snipping as the weather cools down. My hair tends to hit a certain point and give up on getting any longer, so it’s usually either mid-length or short for me. I had a bob a couple of years ago that eventually ended up a little too short for my liking (but really!!!), but I’d be into doing a good mid-length lob for fall. Pinterest has no lack of inspiration (here!).

Take it to the barre

I started working the front desk at barre3 in Georgetown, and it’s been absolutely fabulous getting to attend unlimited classes and see how far I can push myself. Some days are (much) better than others, because it’s really a full-body workout that you can’t do half-assed. I have enjoyed getting to find my favorite instructors whose classes I attend religiously.

If you’ve never done it, it’s a combination of holding positions (lots of squatting and lunging), moving small (tiny movements, an inch at a time, up and down, back and forth, until you think you can’t any longer), and moving big (flushing out your muscles, boosting your heart rate, a relief after the small moves). It’s a lot, but it’s the workout my body has best responded to! I totally recommend it for anyone looking to shake up their fitness routine.
