July PLAY! by Sephora box

I can’t say enough about how much I love the Play! by Sephora box. It’s so fun to get larger samples of beauty products to really get a feel for how something works for you, and this box is no exception. Read on for my reviews of this month’s box!

Ouai

Wave Spray

File_002

Texture mist, lightly scented with a lovely lemon-based fragrance.

Packaging: This spray bottle is perfect for when I’m traveling and want something on hand to refresh my hair in a hurry. It sprays evenly and doesn’t leave hair feeling too damp.

Product: I love that it’s lightly scented – it’s a bit of a pick-me-up for both hair texture and overall freshness. It gave my hair a bit of added volume, as it’s usually fairly limp. I’d like using this when I’m trying to put my hair up, but it works equally as well on just-showered hair as I let it air dry.

Smashbox

Photo Finish Primer

File_000 (1)

Primer to keep your makeup in place all day long.

Packaging: It has a very small opening so you don’t overuse the product, which is great!

Product: I don’t ordinarily use a primer, so I was interested to see how I liked this. My skin is definitely a bit on the oily side (particularly in the summer months), so I was wary of putting another product on my face. The texture is extremely silky and leaves skin feeling smooth, and it’s almost like it isn’t there at all. I did feel like it helped my makeup stay in place, but it might be of better use in the fall when it’s cooler.

First Aid Beauty

Face Cleanser

File_007

Gentle, creamy cleanser perfect for removing impurities.

Packaging: It’s a simple tube, easy to stash in a suitcase when traveling.

Product: I used this with my Clarisonic Mia face brush (on sale now!) and really liked how it lathered. It’s a creamy formula that cleanses skin without overdrying it. My usual face wash from Ole Hendriksen has a milkier consistency, so this felt especially decadent while washing. Afterwards, I liked how clean my skin felt.

Benefit Cosmetics

Dew the Hoola Soft Matte Liquid Bronzer

Liquid bronzer that’s easy to layer to achieve the perfect hue.

Packaging: It has a little pump topper that is good for controlling how much you get out – I found I only needed about half a pump of it.

Product: I honestly thought I’d hate this, but ended up loving it! It is a sheer liquid bronzer, which I rubbed in with my fingertips. After applying, you really need to see it in good lighting to get a good feel for how dark it is. I love that it isn’t shimmery, but rather just adds some warmth and dimension.

BeautyBlender

Blotterazzi

File_001

Washable blotting sponge to remove oil and shine without messing with your makeup
(read: replaces blotting papers).

Packaging: Unfortunately it came in a little cardboard package, which isn’t very sturdy and doesn’t keep the sponge secure. If I toss it in my purse, it can get dirty easily. However the full-sized version comes in a small compact.

Product: Who couldn’t use this during this scorching hot summer? It came at just the right time for me, as I feel like my face gets shiny easily in hot temperatures. The shape is great, and it does a good job of blotting up excess oil.

NEST Fragrance

Citrine

File_002 (1)

Bright citrus scent mixed with woody florals.

Packaging: I adore the floral design on the packaging. The sample has just a bit of the floral design, but the full-sized bottle is too pretty! It would look perfect sitting on a vanity.

Product: I’d wear this on a regular basis for sure. It’s fresh without being overly citrus-scented, and it’s definitely feminine, which is a necessity when I’m finding a fragrance. It reminds me of a fragrance I had years ago from Gap that I couldn’t get enough of! You can see other options from NEST here.

Would you consider trying out the Play! by Sephora box?
