How to shop J.Crew

J.Crew and I go way back. I worked there post-college when I was struggling to get a ‘real’ job, and I think it really redefined the way I think about style and fashion.

Working at a store that put a large focus on looking classic with a twist, I was forced to try things out of my comfort zone – mixing patterns, layering jewelry, and adding an extra piece to an otherwise simple outfit. That being said, I have ended up with a number of fun patterned pieces from the store, but what really stick with me year after year are the classics.

There’s an amazing sale going on now, with a ton of my favorite J.Crew staples on sale. If you’ve ever wanted to buy one of the must-have pieces, now is a great time to go for it! Use code FRIDAY to get the sale price below.

Boy Shirt

regularly $70
on sale $30

I love this shirt – it has a bit of extra room as opposed to the perfect shirt, and they’re so easy to wear. They come in tons of patterns and colors, with a few more favorites on sale here, here and here.

4″ Chino Short

regularly $40
on sale $18 (select sizes) and $21

These are the perfect length – I’m not a fan of the short-shorts, but there are also 3″ and 5″ versions. The fabric is thick and sturdy, so they’re great for playing around in all summer long.

Cece Leather Flats

regularly $128
on sale $66

There was some drama at J.Crew in past years over the quality of leather, but the Cece flats have long been a favorite of mine. No break-in time needed, the leather is soft and buttery, making these a steal.

The Downtown Field Jacket

regularly $148
no longer on sale

This was a piece I saved up for over time, and definitely haven’t regretted! It has a bit of a boxy fit and comes in a waxed cotton, and it’s a great alternative to a jean jacket for days where another light layer is exactly what you need.

French Bikini Top and Hipster Bikini Bottom

regularly $44 and $40
on sale $18 and $40

I bought this in a neon floral print I adored a few years back, and it’s a staple in my bikini collection. I especially love the brilliant peri color that’s on sale now! The hipster bottom gives just the right amount of coverage without looking too frumpy.

Honorable mentions

Full disclosure: I don’t own these, but I want to.

Elsie Leopard Pumps

regularly $278
on sale $110

Is this leopard print not the most perfect leopard print you’ve ever seen? I love that they aren’t calf hair – it makes them a bit more professional and neutral for the office. They have amazing reviews, and come in a few different colors, too!

Gemma Flats

regularly $148
on sale $60

Another shoe I’ve heard rave reviews about – the Gemma flat. A simple pointed toe updated the ballet flat in a big way. I’m particularly loving the stripe, but there are more adorable discounted options here, here and here.
