Birthday treats

Yesterday was my 24th birthday. I have always been one to celebrate birthdays with vigor; what’s not to love about a day where you get presents and everyone is especially nice to you? But this year I had a bit of a lag in my planning, which is unusual for me. I don’t think I’m bound to be one of those people who avoids their birthday, but I don’t know that I will feel the need to celebrate with the same sheer excitement as I had in the past.

That being said, I had the perfect birthday. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. To start, my coworkers gave me some pretty amazing flowers, cards and treats and took me out to lunch. After work, Eric and I met up for dinner at a local restaurant with a sweet cottage vibe and a pretty patio, sharing a few small plates and a bottle of wine. (I love few things more than meals and drinks outside.)

After that it was time for presents! I love giving gifts but always seem to forget that I get to be the recipient on my day. Some of the amazing things I received (and adore) include:

kate spade new york Cobble Hill Small Harris in Geranium
Also available in Black, Warm Putty and Pebble

I bought my most recent bag last spring, so I was in desperate need of a new one! I have been using totes for as long as I can remember (namely the Southport Avenue Cameron in Seedpearl, available here in Black $290 and Shale $290), but I was ready for something a bit smaller and brighter to transition into summer. Eric got me this poppy red bag, and I can’t wait to get lots of use out of it!

Banana Republic Sloan-Fit Colorblock Cutout Sheath

This dress is gorgeously unique; I love the mix of navy and black! It fits like a glove and is a very professional dress that still feels feminine and interesting. It’s definitely a grown-up dress that will be a wardrobe staple for me.

Disaster Preparedness: A Memoir by Heather Havrilesky

My coworker and I have gotten really into reading this amazing advice column on The Cut called Ask Polly. It’s written by Heather Havrilesky – I love how she articulates her opinions and makes each of the articles extremely interesting, even when the topics don’t relate to me. Her language and tone stays the same in her book, where she reflects on her childhood and family life. I’ve only just started, but if you’re looking for an interesting read it seems like a great one!

Gap Panel Maxi Dress

I love maxi dresses for a million reasons – they’re comfortable, easy to wear, simple but sweet. This navy dress is perfect to show off a great pair of wedges, or to pair with sandals for a more casual look.
